Summary

VEIA Digitalis is a blockchain-based digital identity platform launched in 2019 through collaboration between major Spanish companies including Repsol, Ferrovial, Banco Sabadell, Cepsa, Red Eléctrica and MAPFRE. The platform implements a Self-Sovereign Identity model based on the Alastria digital identity standard and is aligned with eIDAS and GDPR regulations. Its core technical infrastructure utilizes the W3C Verifiable Credentials Data Model and operates on Alastria's blockchain network.

The platform's primary features include:

  • Web Wallet and Mobile Wallet applications for credential management
  • Smart Contract automation for data management
  • Decentralized verification of supplier documentation
  • Integration with SAP Ariba for procurement processes
  • Support for both individual and organizational identities
  • Cross-organization credential sharing without intermediaries

Notable adoption includes integration with over 150,000 suppliers across Spain's energy, infrastructure, finance and insurance sectors, processing more than 4 million operations annually. The project has expanded beyond its initial procurement focus to become a broader identity platform, with AENOR, SAP España and the Madrid City Council joining as partners in later phases. The platform's governance model emphasizes decentralization while maintaining compliance with European regulations.

Tech Stack Self Description

Digitalis is based on Alastria's Digital Identity standard, a Self-Managed Digital Identity model aligned with eIDAS (European Electronic Identity Recognition System) and the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), and allows individuals and legal entities to maintain control over a single identity. In addition, the Digitalis governance model meets the decentralization and "distributed operation" criteria of the Blockchain network, without intermediaries, as users can share their credentials with whomever they consider without any cost.
