Summary

PingOne Neo is a multi-standards decentralized identity management solution launched by Ping Identity in March 2023. The platform implements Self-Sovereign Identity principles by enabling users to control their digital identities through verifiable credentials stored in digital wallets.

The solution is built on several key technical standards and protocols:

  • W3C Verifiable Credentials Data Model
  • W3C Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs)
  • Standards from the OpenID Foundation and ISO
  • Integration with the Open Wallet Foundation Initiative for wallet interoperability

Core features include:

  • Verification Services for:
    • Digital credential cryptographic validation
    • Physical document authentication
    • Biometric verification
    • Phone/email possession checks
  • Credentials Management supporting:
    • Automated credential issuance
    • Centralized lifecycle management
    • Selective disclosure and consent controls

The platform uses the Hedera public ledger for credential revocation and status management

The solution follows a standard verifiable credentials workflow where issuers create and sign credentials, users store them in digital wallets, and verifiers can validate the credentials without contacting the original issuer. This enables a more privacy-preserving approach to identity verification compared to traditional federated systems. Notable early adoption includes implementations in financial services, government services, and retail sectors for use cases like age verification and employee credentialing.
