Lissi is a digital identity software provider that develops solutions for Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) and digital wallet applications. Founded in 2020 as part of Commerzbank's innovation unit Main Incubator GmbH, the project focuses on enabling trusted interactions between organizations and their customers through verifiable credentials and digital wallets.
The core technical implementation uses the Hyperledger Indy
framework for the DID registry and Hyperledger Aries
for agent communication. The platform leverages the DIDComm
protocol for encrypted peer-to-peer communication and supports integration with existing standards like OpenID Connect
. Notable technical features include support for selective disclosure, zero-knowledge proofs, and compatibility with multiple DLT networks including IDunion, Sovrin, and Indicio. The Lissi Wallet enables users to store credentials locally while maintaining data sovereignty through features like credential import/export functionality.
The project has significant backing from the German Federal Ministry of Economics through the "Showcase Digital Identities" program and plays a leading role in the IDunion consortium. Lissi is actively involved in implementing the European Digital Identity Wallet standards as part of the eIDAS 2.0
regulation, working to enable cross-border digital identity verification across the EU. Key partners include major financial institutions like Commerzbank, ING, and Deutsche Bank, as well as the German Federal Printing Office (Bundesdruckerei).
