MIIO (Dalion) is a collaborative digital identity project launched in 2021 that implements Self-Sovereign Identity principles using blockchain technology. The initiative is led by a consortium of major Spanish financial institutions and companies including BBVA, Banco Santander, CaixaBank, Generali, Inetum, Línea Directa Aseguradora, MAPFRE, Repsol, Unicaja Banco, and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
The project's core technology is built on the Alastria ID model and utilizes W3C Verifiable Credentials standards. It enables users to manage their digital identity through a mobile wallet application where they maintain complete control over their personal data and can selectively share verified credentials with service providers. The solution is based on blockchain technology, specifically using the Alastria network's Ethereum-Quorum infrastructure with Proof of Authority consensus.
Dalion has achieved significant validation through Spain's Financial Sandbox program, becoming the first project to successfully complete testing under supervision of the Banco de España. The platform maintains alignment with the European Self-Sovereign Identity Framework (ESSIF) to ensure interoperability with EU-wide identity initiatives. Key features include:
