ConnectID is a digital identity verification network launched in 2023 by Australian Payments Plus (AP+), designed to enable secure identity verification without storing personal data. The system acts as an exchange between identity providers (like major banks) and relying parties, allowing users to verify their identity using trusted institutions they already have relationships with. Built on the W3C Verifiable Credentials
standard, ConnectID implements Self-Sovereign Identity principles through features like Zero-Knowledge Proofs
and selective disclosure of attributes.
The platform has received significant backing from Australia's major banks, with Commonwealth Bank (CBA) and National Australia Bank (NAB) as active identity providers, while ANZ and Westpac are strategic partners. ConnectID is accredited under the Australian Government's Trusted Digital Identity Framework (TDIF)
and was the first non-government operator to receive this accreditation. Key technical features include:
Notable adoption includes integration with several Australian businesses across sectors including:
- Referoo (reference checking)
- Credenxia and OnePassport (workforce compliance)
- ServiceSeeking (contractor marketplace)
- RentBetter (property rental)
- Shaype (payments)
