CX-0013 Identity of Member Company is a technical standard that defines how digital identity is managed for companies participating in the Catena-X Automotive Network. The standard establishes a Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) framework using Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) to enable independent and verifiable digital identities for network participants.

The standard implements a decentralized approach where companies maintain control over their own digital identity through Wallet Services. This allows organizations to manage their identity attributes (like company name, address, tax numbers) while ensuring interoperability across multiple networks. A key feature is that all employee and technical user identities must be linked to their respective company's digital identity.

Key differentiators include:

  • Decentralized architecture avoiding single Identity Provider dependency
  • Self-sovereign control over identity attributes
  • Integration with W3C DID standards
  • Support for network-of-networks model

Purpose and Scope:

  • Enable standardized digital identity management for Catena-X participants
  • Define technical requirements for Wallet Services and DID implementation
  • Establish identity verification processes
  • Support company-level identity management

Technical Specifications:

  • Uses did:web method for DID implementation
  • Follows W3C DID Core specifications
  • Requires implementation of Verifiable Credentials
  • Supports Universal Resolver compatibility

Implementation Requirements:

  1. Core Service Providers must:

    • Create DID documents following did:web standard
    • Provide documentation of architecture and processes
    • Implement registration validation processes
  2. Enablement Service Providers must:

    • Offer compliant Wallet Services
    • Support DID document creation
    • Enable credential management

Security Considerations:

  • Based on cryptographic technologies
  • Implements Decentralized Public Key Infrastructure (DPKI)
  • Requires secure key storage in Wallets
  • Enforces company validation during registration

Interoperability Features:

  • Compatible with W3C DID standards
  • Supports cross-network identity verification
  • Enables credential exchange between participants
  • Uses standardized DID resolution methods

Current Adoption:

Implemented as core infrastructure within the Catena-X Automotive Network
Required for all network participants
Supported by certified Core Service Providers
