Truu improves the healthcare ecosystem by providing a secure, verifiable digital passport for healthcare professionals to foster trust, reduce friction, and usher in new dynamic digital capabilities.
Summary
Source

Truu is a digital identity platform focused on providing verifiable credentials for healthcare professionals, particularly doctors. Founded in 2015 by two NHS doctors and launched commercially in 2019, the platform aims to streamline the verification of medical staff identities, qualifications, and certifications using Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) principles.

The technical implementation leverages multiple public permissioned distributed registries, including the Sovrin Network and Microsoft ION. Truu uses W3C Verifiable Credentials standards and implements passwordless authentication for clinical applications. The platform operates on Evernym's Verity Architecture and supports:

  • Remote pre-employment and identity checks
  • Real-time credential verification
  • Passwordless single sign-on for clinical systems
  • Secure peer-to-peer messaging between organizations
  • Integration with existing healthcare IT infrastructure

Notable adoption includes work with the UK National Health Service (NHS), where Truu has demonstrated significant efficiency gains by reducing doctor onboarding time from 2 months to 2 minutes. The platform has also partnered with the Post Office for physical document verification and works with regulatory bodies like the General Medical Council. As a Sovrin Foundation Founding Steward, Truu plays an active role in developing decentralized identity standards for healthcare applications.

Tech Stack Self Description

The Truu Services require the use of a third-party distributed registry technology-based digital identity network (a “Digital Credential Registry”) to immutably record certain Digital Credential-related information. Truu Services supports several public permissioned distributed registries, including, but not limited to the Sovrin Network and Microsoft ION.
