Summary

Triall is a blockchain-integrated clinical trial management platform that launched in 2022 to improve data integrity and collaboration in medical research. The platform implements Self-Sovereign Identity technology and W3C Verifiable Credentials to give patients more control over their clinical trial participation and consent management. Through its partnership with Crucial Data Solutions, Triall builds on the established TrialKit platform which has been used in over 8,000 clinical studies globally.

The platform's core technical features include blockchain-based data verification, decentralized identity management, and an integrated suite of eClinical solutions for remote trial management. It leverages DIDs and Verifiable Credentials to coordinate informed consent processes in a privacy-preserving way. Notable implementations include:

  • A Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension trial with Mayo Clinic involving 10 research sites and 500 patients
  • Integration with Sphereon's VDX platform for verifiable data exchange
  • Compliance with healthcare standards like HIPAA, GDPR, and 21 CFR Part 11

The project has received R&D funding from the Dutch government to develop blockchain-based electronic consenting solutions. Triall aims to create a decentralized ecosystem for clinical trials that enables secure cross-system collaboration while maintaining data integrity and patient privacy through emerging Web3 standards. The platform uses its native TRL token to facilitate data exchange between trial participants, sponsors, and service providers.
