Trential

Trential is a digital identity platform launched in 2022 that emerged from the Indian National Blockchain Project at IIT Kanpur. The platform implements Self-Sovereign Identity principles through a suite of products built on W3C DID and Verifiable Credentials standards. Their core offering includes:

• Trential Wallet: A mobile application for storing and managing digital credentials
• Credential Management Platform: For issuing W3C-compliant credentials
• Verity: A verification suite with APIs for identity and document verification
• Trential Access: Digital access control system

The platform has gained notable adoption in India, particularly through its collaboration with the Karnataka state government for blockchain-based property registration. The system provides property holders with digital identity cards that function similarly to ATM cards, allowing secure access to property documentation through PIN authentication. Trential received seed funding of $2 million from Arkam Ventures in July 2023 and maintains research headquarters at IIT Kanpur while operating commercially through offices in Gurugram.

The technical architecture leverages blockchain technology for credential immutability and implements features like:
