SportChain

SportChain is a blockchain-based digital identity service developed by Validated ID that aims to bring transparency and trust to sports data verification. The project implements Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) principles through integration with the VIDwallet mobile application and VIDcredentials platform to enable secure management of sports-related credentials and data.

The core technical implementation includes:

• Support for W3C DID and Verifiable Credentials standards
• Integration with the Alastria blockchain network for credential notarization
• Data notarization mechanism to verify sports statistics and achievements
• Reputation service for analyzing notarized sports data
• Mobile-based identity wallet for credential storage and presentation

Key features include:

• Issuance of tamper-proof digital credentials for athletes and sports organizations
• Secure storage of sports achievements and participation records
• Verification capabilities for leagues, teams, and other stakeholders
• Analytics services based on verified sports data
• Integration with existing sports management systems

The project received funding through the European Union's NGI TruBlo program (grant agreement No. 957228) and aims to address identity fraud issues in sports, such as falsified credentials or achievements. While still in development, SportChain demonstrates potential applications in team management, league administration, insurance, and sports media sectors by providing a standardized way to verify and share trusted sports-related data.
