RootsWallet is an open-source Self-Sovereign Identity mobile wallet developed by RootsID that enables management of digital identities and verifiable credentials on the Cardano blockchain. The wallet implements multiple identity protocols and standards to enable broad interoperability across different identity ecosystems.
The wallet's core technical features include support for W3C DID
and Verifiable Credentials
standards, integration with KERI
(Key Event Receipt Infrastructure), and compatibility with Hyperledger Aries
frameworks. It implements various credential formats including JSON-JWT
, JSON-LD
, and JSON-LD with BBS+
to enable:
Notable integrations include working with the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) ecosystem for organizational identity verification through their vLEI (verifiable LEI) system. The wallet serves as a KERI witness for the GLEIF Network, providing a secondary source of trust for organizational identities and credentials.
The project maintains active collaboration with major identity standards organizations including the Decentralized Identity Foundation, Trust over IP Foundation, and Hyperledger Foundation. Development is funded through the Cardano Catalyst program and the codebase is fully open source, allowing any organization to deploy their own instance of the wallet infrastructure.
