Summary

OnboardSSI is a digital identity project developed by Quadible Ltd. that aims to make Self-Sovereign Identity more user-friendly through AI-powered identity verification. Launched in January 2022 as part of the eSSIF-Lab infrastructure program, the project received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research initiative under grant agreement No. 871932.

The core technical implementation consists of a three-step identity verification process:

  • Document Scanning and validation of identity documents (e.g., passports)
  • Biometric Verification through liveness detection and facial matching
  • Continuous Authentication using AI to analyze 14 different behavioral and biometric traits

The solution implements W3C Verifiable Credentials standards and aims to achieve a High Level of Assurance based on the eIDAS regulation. Notable technical features include:

  • Secure Storage of verifiable credentials through encryption
  • User-Friendly Abstraction layer for credential management
  • AI-Powered Authentication without human validator intervention
  • Open APIs and Apache 2.0 licensed components

The project has seen implementation by Epirus Bank in Greece as their continuous behavioral authentication solution for tackling online fraud, marking one of the first banking adoptions of this technology in the region.
