ON REM

REM ID is a self-sovereign digital credential management platform launched in 2020 by World Data Inc. The platform implements the W3C Verifiable Credentials Data Model standard and operates on the LACChain blockchain network, a public initiative led by the Inter-American Development Bank's Innovation Lab.

The system consists of two main components:

• REM ID: A mobile wallet application for individuals to store and manage their verifiable credentials
• REM BIZ: A platform for organizations to issue credentials and manage verification workflows

Key technical features include:

• Support for multiple credential types:
  • Self-attested credentials
  • Third-party verified credentials
  • Peer-attested credentials
  • Personal unverified credentials
• Blockchain-based verification using LACChain's infrastructure
• Single sign-on capabilities across participating platforms
• Initiative management tools for credential issuers

Notable adoption includes implementation by the University of West Indies for issuing digital academic credentials, with > 2,000 certificates issued and potential for 50,000 more. The platform has also been used for COVID-19 health credentials in Latin America through collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank.
