Summary

Oliu is a blockchain-based digital identity management platform launched in 2022 by ATB Ventures, the innovation arm of ATB Financial. The platform leverages Self-Sovereign Identity principles and implements several key technical standards including W3C Verifiable Credentials and the Pan-Canadian Trust Framework (PCTF).

The platform consists of three main components:

  • Oliu Platform: A blockchain identity management system for issuing and verifying digital credentials
  • Oliu Studio: A no-code interface for organizations to manage digital credentials
  • Proof Wallet: A mobile application for users to store and control their digital credentials

The technical implementation uses decentralized architecture built on open standards, with key features including:

  • Integration with Indy Aries Credentials
  • Support for passwordless authentication
  • Zero-knowledge proofs for privacy-preserving verification
  • Compliance with the National Trust and Identity Fundamentals

Notable adoption includes selection by the Government of Canada to power their National Digital Trust Service proof of concept in 2022, with over 20 organizations participating in the initial deployment.

The platform aims to enable interoperability between identity systems while giving users control over their personal data through self-sovereign identity principles. All credential data is stored on the user's device rather than centrally, with the blockchain only containing verification proofs rather than actual identity information.
