The NOBID Consortium is one of four large-scale pilot projects launched in 2023 to test the implementation of the EU Digital Identity Wallet initiative. Comprising Nordic and Baltic countries along with Italy and Germany, the consortium focuses specifically on testing and developing the payment use case functionality within the EU Digital Identity framework. The project operates under the European Commission's DIGITAL Programme and is scheduled to continue until 2025.
The consortium's technical work is organized into several key work packages, including wallet application development (WP4), user onboarding (WP5), QEAA issuance (WP6), and digital payments integration (WP7). As part of the broader EU Digital Identity Wallet ecosystem, NOBID adheres to the eIDAS 2.0 framework and contributes to the development of the Common Toolbox specifications. The project represents a significant public-private partnership, involving 25 organizations across participating countries working to ensure secure, interoperable digital identity solutions for cross-border payments and related services within the European Union.
