Summary

MyData is a personal data marketplace platform launched in 2019 by SNPLab that enables individuals to monetize their de-identified personal data while allowing businesses to access anonymized consumer insights. The platform implements Self-Sovereign Identity principles through its did:snplab method and uses on-device storage to keep personal data exclusively on users' mobile devices.

The platform's core technical architecture combines several key components:

  • An encrypted Personal Data Store (PDS) that uses NIST-recommended cipher suites
  • W3C DID-compliant decentralized identifiers generated independently on users' phones
  • Blockchain-based transaction logging using Hyperledger Fabric for immutable records
  • AI-based targeting that enables businesses to reach specific audiences while maintaining user anonymity
  • Data anonymization processes that remove personally identifiable information

The project has gained notable traction in South Korea, partnering with organizations like Korea Gallup and receiving support through government initiatives including the 2022 Inter-ministerial Technology Commercialization Relay Project. A key implementation is the ESA-ON public service app developed for Seoul Municipality that provides one-click administrative services. The platform aims to balance commercial data utilization with privacy protection by giving users control over their data while enabling businesses to access valuable consumer insights through anonymized channels.

Tech Stack Self Description

Blockchain: Blockchain is employed to transparently log all transactions, ensuring that they remain immutable, even by SNPLAB. It's important to note that no user data is recorded on the blockchain. self-issue DID (Decentralized Identifier): The user's phone independently generates a self-issued DID, which is then shared with businesses as an identifier. This ensures that businesses cannot identify the individual, but can recognize that the data originates from the same source. AI-based personalized non-identifiable targeted marketing: Businesses have the capability to register tailored advertisements with precision, enabling them to engage specific audiences by leveraging factors like demographics, interests, and preferences. Scraping: Data scraping technology automatically collects and extracts data from websites and online sources, encompassing various data types such as text, links, etc., used for analysis, research, and business information monitoring. Encrypted PDS: All user data is encrypted using NIST-recommended cipher suites and stored on the user's mobile phone. This method safeguards data against unauthorized access and leaks, providing a secure means to store sensitive information or personal data. Data anonymization: Data anonymization is the process of removing or replacing identifiable information in personal data to enhance privacy. It protects sensitive information but the data still can be used for various way such as analysis, research, and machine learning.
