Midy is a digital identity verification platform launched in 2023 by Gen Digital Inc. that implements Self-Sovereign Identity principles through mobile-based identity verification and credential management. The platform utilizes W3C Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs)
and verifiable credentials
standards to enable users to store and share identity information.
The system is built around three core components: Midy User Services (mobile and cloud), Digital Trust Services (credential issuance and verification), and Online Provider Integration. Users can verify their identity by scanning government IDs and completing biometric verification through the mobile app, with credentials stored in an encrypted digital vault. The platform implements key technical standards including OpenID Connect
for authentication and follows principles of user control, consent, scalability, reusability, and interoperability.
Gen Digital has positioned Midy within broader digital identity initiatives by joining the Trust Over IP Foundation, Decentralized Identity Foundation, World Wide Web Consortium, and FIDO Alliance as a steering member. The company is also participating in the EU Digital Identity Wallet Consortium pilot program. The platform's architecture enables selective disclosure of identity attributes and supports both initial identity verification and subsequent re-verification flows while maintaining user privacy through features like pairwise pseudonymous identifiers between users and relying parties.
