LearnCard Suite is a comprehensive digital identity and credentialing platform launched in 2022 by the Learning Economy Foundation. The platform combines a W3C Universal Wallet implementation with physical credentials to bridge digital and physical identity management, particularly focused on educational and professional credentials.

The core technical infrastructure includes:

  • Universal Wallet supporting:
    • W3C Verifiable Credentials
    • Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs)
    • IPFS storage integration
    • Blockchain connectivity through modular plugins
  • Key Features:
    • Digital and physical credential issuance
    • Credential verification and sharing
    • Integration with learning platforms
    • Cross-platform support (iOS, Android, Web)
    • Open source SDK for developers

The platform has gained notable adoption through partnerships with:

  • World Bank for refugee identity programs
  • LEGO Foundation for children's educational credentials
  • Tennessee Community Colleges for student records
  • World Scout Movement for badge issuance (>70k badges in first week)

The project emphasizes interoperability and composability through its modular architecture and adherence to open standards. It aims to provide infrastructure for educational credentials while maintaining user sovereignty over personal data. The platform is particularly focused on serving underserved populations through its combination of physical and digital credential management capabilities.

Tech Stack Self Description

The LearnCard’s digital wallet, ID, and credentialing technology is built on the W3C Universal Wallet (UW), a packaging of draft standards and open source frameworks incubated by DCC, Transmute, and Learning Economy Foundation. The UW includes key management and key rotation capabilities, Verifiable Credentials (VCs), Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs), and a trust triangle that operates modularly on IPFS with plug-ins for any layer 1 or layer 2 blockchain.
