Kilt

Sporran is a browser extension wallet developed by B.T.E. BOTLabs Trusted Entity GmbH that serves as a gateway to the KILT Protocol ecosystem. Launched in 2021, it implements W3C DID standards to enable self-sovereign identity management alongside traditional cryptocurrency wallet functionality. The wallet allows users to:

• Store and present verifiable credentials
• Sign transactions on the KILT blockchain
• Manage KILT Coin balances
• Generate unique web3names as human-readable identifiers

From a technical perspective, Sporran implements several key features for credential management and privacy. Credentials are stored locally on the user's device rather than on-chain, with only credential hashes anchored to the blockchain for verification purposes. The wallet supports selective disclosure, allowing users to share specific credential attributes while keeping others private. It integrates with did:kilt method specifications and enables interaction with other KILT ecosystem services like SocialKYC for credential issuance.

Notable adoption includes integration with the German Energy Agency (dena) pilot project, where Sporran was used to implement machine identities for energy grid devices. The wallet served as the interface for managing device DIDs and credentials in a highly regulated environment, demonstrating practical application in enterprise scenarios. The project involved collaboration with major industry players including Energy Web Foundation, Parity Technologies, and several German energy companies.
