Metadium protocol aims to create a revolutionary next-generation digital identity.
Summary
Source

Keepin is a mobile application developed by Metadium that implements Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) functionality using blockchain technology. Launched in 2019, the platform utilizes the W3C DID standard and integrates with the Metadium blockchain to provide decentralized identity management capabilities. The project's core technical infrastructure includes an Identity Hub - a decentralized, off-chain personal datastore that enables users to securely store and selectively share identity information.

Key technical features include:

  • Secure Enclave storage for private keys
  • Integration with W3C Verifiable Credentials
  • dPKI Algorithm combining asymmetric keys with blockchain technology
  • Support for biometric authentication
  • Data Verification services for:
    • Phone numbers (Korean citizens)
    • Email addresses
    • Passport information
    • Student ID verification

The project achieved notable adoption through partnerships with the Busan Metropolitan Government in South Korea, where Keepin was implemented as part of the city's blockchain regulatory-free zone project to provide mobile identification services for citizens. However, as of April 2024, Metadium announced the termination of the Keepin wallet application, with service support ending on September 30, 2024. Users are being directed to migrate their assets to MetaMask using the Metadium mainnet integration.

Metadium has built a DID authentication system on the blockchain to grant trust based on VC (Verifiable Credentials) to various services. Metadium's DID authentication system has demonstrated its capabilities in various government projects and corporate partnerships with solid performance through a fast network and unique DID application method (or architecture). Service providers can develop trust-based businesses such as e-passport, identity authentication, and ID with Metadium's DID solution.
