ixo

ixo is a blockchain-based platform focused on building digital infrastructure for measuring and verifying social and environmental impact. The platform utilizes the Cosmos SDK and operates its own Layer 1 blockchain called the ixo-Cosmos blockchain, which implements IBC (Inter-Blockchain Communication) protocols and Tendermint consensus.

The technical architecture includes eight custom Cosmos modules:

The platform implements W3C DID specifications and uses Verified Impact Data to generate Impact Tokens that can be traded through decentralized exchanges. Notable implementations include:

Partnership with Seneca Park Zoo Society to measure conservation projects in Madagascar using blockchain-based sensors
Collaboration with UBS and UBS Optimus Foundation to implement Adaptive Financing (AlphaBonds) for education funding in India
The Amply project in South Africa which digitized preschool attendance tracking, processing over 55,000 records across 77 schools

The ecosystem includes client applications like the Impacts Wallet, JAMBO, and Launchpad, with development tools provided through the Impacts SDK. In 2023, the platform launched its mobile application Impacts X on iOS, expanding accessibility to its impact verification and trading features.
