Initial is a blockchain-based mobile identification system launched in 2020 by NH Nonghyup Bank in South Korea, developed in collaboration with Samsung Electronics and LG Uplus. The system implements Self-Sovereign Identity principles through Decentralized Identifier (DID) technology, allowing users to maintain control over their personal information while providing secure authentication. It represents the first commercial application of distributed identity technology developed by the Initial DID Association, an identity consortium governed by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency.
