Identiproof allows organisations to issue fully verifiable digital credentials of any type. Designed by the co-author of the W3C standard, Em Prof David Chadwick, Identiproof was specifically built to support the new W3C Verifiable Credentials standard guaranteeing the privacy of the subject of the credentials.
Summary

Identiproof is a verifiable credentials (VC) middleware and wallet technology that implements the W3C Verifiable Credentials Data Model and Web Authentication (FIDO2) standards. Developed by Verifiable Credentials Limited and later acquired by Crossword Cybersecurity in 2021, the system was designed by Professor David Chadwick, one of the six co-authors of the W3C VC standard. The platform consists of three core components:

  • An Issuer System for creating and managing verifiable credentials
  • Digital Wallets for storing and managing credentials
  • A Verifier System for validating presented credentials
  • Selective Disclosure capabilities for GDPR compliance

The technology has demonstrated significant integration with established standards and frameworks through participation in notable technical collaborations. In 2022, Identiproof participated in the Jobs for the Future (JFF) Plugfest, successfully implementing the Open Badges V3 standard for Learning and Employment Records. The system has also been used in government applications, including a > UK Government-funded trial of COVID-19 certificates for East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust.

Identiproof utilizes OpenID Connect protocols for credential issuance and verification, and integrates with the TRAIN trust infrastructure for scalable trust establishment. The platform supports multiple credential types including:

  • Digital certificates
  • Licenses
  • Memberships
  • Digital tickets
  • Identity documents
  • Educational credentials

All implementations follow the W3C Verifiable Credentials Data Model specification and incorporate privacy-preserving features through selective disclosure mechanisms.

Tech Stack Self Description
Source
Identiproof’s VC technology has wide ranging applications including digital ticketing, certificates, licenses, memberships, passports, proof of ownerships and many others. It provides a central technology in applications for the issuing of digital certificates and documents that cannot be forged or transferred, and that respect the privacy of the holders of those certificates. It does this through selective disclosure, whereby the recipient requests the minimum of information in conformance with GDPR. Identiproof is one of the first systems built to the 2019 W3C recommendations: The Verifiable Credentials Data Model and Web Authentication (FIDO2) – two new global web security standards.
