HashKey DID is a multi-chain decentralized identity project launched in 2022 that implements W3C DID standards through NFT-based identifiers with decentralized storage and privacy features. The system operates across multiple blockchain networks including PlatON, Ethereum, Klaytn, and Polygon.
The core technical architecture consists of smart contracts that manage four main functions: registration, authorization, KYC services, and credential issuance. User data is stored in a decentralized manner with core identity data on-chain and metadata on Arweave. The system implements ERC-721 for non-transferable DID tokens and ERC-1155 for credential issuance. Notable integrations include partnerships with Alibaba Cloud and OneCash for KYC verification services.
As part of the broader HashKey Group ecosystem, HashKey DID was rebranded under HashKey Cloud in 2024 to expand its infrastructure services. The platform aims to provide Web3 identity solutions while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, though it notably excludes users from certain jurisdictions including mainland China and the United States. While the system emphasizes decentralization in data storage, key management remains solely with users through their private keys, with no current recovery mechanisms implemented.
