goConfirm (formerly Qui Identity) is a decentralized digital identity platform launched in late 2023 that implements self-sovereign identity principles using the KERI
(Key Event Receipt Infrastructure) protocol. The platform enables users to create and control verified digital identities through:
W3C DID
standards and Verifiable CredentialsThe technical architecture leverages KERI
for its key management and rotation capabilities, allowing users to maintain control of their identifiers without dependence on centralized authorities. The platform uses blinded pre-commitments to secure key rotation events and implements a distributed approach where users can act as custodians of their own identity data. Notable features include the ability to port identity credentials across different platforms and services while maintaining cryptographic verifiability.
The project was founded by Wave Financial alumni Kirk Simpson and Peter Carrescia with $6.5M CAD in seed funding from OMERS Ventures, Wittington Ventures, and Round13 Capital. Initial deployment has focused on peer-to-peer marketplaces like Facebook Marketplace and community platforms, where the technology is used to verify participants' identities and reduce fraud. The platform reports adoption across 7 countries with over 10,000 verified users and has been used to support over $1.5M in verified peer-to-peer commerce transactions.
