Elastos Name Service (.ela)

Elastos Name Service (.ela) is a blockchain-based domain name service launched in June 2022 on the Elastos ecosystem. The service enables users to replace complex cryptocurrency addresses with human-readable domain names while integrating with decentralized identity capabilities through the Elastos DID protocol.

The system is built on the Elastos Smart Chain (ESC), utilizing ERC721 token standards for domain registration. Key technical features include:

• One-time registration fee model with permanent ownership
• Integration with the Elastos DID sidechain for self-sovereign identity management
• Support for zero-knowledge proofs for selective identity disclosure
• SDK/API integration capabilities with wallets, dApps, and DeFi platforms
• Compatibility with popular wallets like MetaMask, Trust Wallet, and Coinbase Wallet

Notable implementations include the ability to link domains with decentralized identities, enabling users to associate their .ela domains with social media profiles, decentralized websites, and other applications within the ecosystem. The project is part of the Web3 Domain Alliance and has undergone security audits by teams including WebEssentials, ENSDomains, and Unstoppable Domains. The service introduces its native ELAD token for governance through a DAO structure and staking mechanisms.
