Summary

Domi is a digital identity solution for the rental housing market that implements Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) technology to create a privacy-preserving rental management system. Founded in 2019 by Domi Labs in Berlin, the platform enables tenants to maintain portable digital credentials for rental applications while giving property managers tools for verification and communication. The project received funding from the European Union's H2020 research program (grants #871498 and #871932) and graduated from the SSI Incubator in San Francisco.

The technical implementation focuses on privacy-by-design principles and GDPR compliance through its SSI architecture. Key features include:

  • Digital rental passport with verifiable credentials
  • Cross-border credential portability
  • End-to-end property management tools
  • Selective disclosure capabilities for tenant data
  • Integrated communication between tenants and landlords

The platform aims to streamline rental processes by allowing tenants to maintain control of their personal data while providing property managers with verified information. After completing the SSI Incubator program in December 2019, Domi Labs has focused on building partnerships in Berlin and preparing for market launch. The project represents an early implementation of SSI technology in the real estate sector, though public information about specific technical protocols and standards used is limited.

Domi uses a new digital identity technology called Self Sovereign Identity (SSI). With this technology, Domi is privacy-by-design in nature, and enables you to manage your information as digital credentials. These credentials have a special property that allows you to selectively choose what data you would like to present.
Credential profile data is sourced from the Open Wallet Foundation digital-wallet-and-agent-overviews-sig project, licensed under the Apache License 2.0
