Concordium aims to empower individuals and businesses to navigate Web3 confidently by providing a science-backed, environmentally responsible Layer1 blockchain that enables verifiable self-sovereign data ownership and secure transactions at low cost.
Summary
Source

Concordium Wallet is a blockchain-based digital identity solution launched in 2021 that implements Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) principles through its native ID layer called Web3ID. The system builds on W3C DID and W3C Verifiable Credentials standards to enable verifiable identity management while preserving privacy through zero-knowledge proofs.

The platform's core technical features include:

  • Built-in identity layer at the protocol level using the did:ccd method
  • Support for multiple credential types including:
    • Account credentials
    • Smart contract credentials
    • Public key credentials
    • Identity provider credentials
  • Privacy-preserving verification through:
    • Zero-knowledge proofs
    • Threshold signatures
    • Selective disclosure

Notable implementations and adoption include partnerships with:

  • Google and Energinet for green energy tracking
  • Digital Trust Solutions for African identity verification
  • Integration with hardware wallets like Ledger
  • Support from multiple exchanges including KuCoin, Bitfinex, and Gate.io

The project maintains active development through its DevX Initiative and offers extensive documentation via its technical specifications, SDK resources, and developer academy. While originally focused broadly on blockchain identity, in 2025 Concordium shifted its primary focus to enabling trusted financial interactions and supporting stablecoin issuers through its identity infrastructure.

Tech Stack Self Description
Source
Concordium’s ID layer, dubbed “Web3ID”, which builds on the W3C standards for self-sovereign identity, was released in September 2023. With Web3ID, any company can be an issuer of credentials that claim something about a person. And any person or business can verify information given by the user based on those credentials in the shape of zero-knowledge proofs.
