certME

certME is a blockchain-based digital identity solution developed by certSIGN that provides eIDAS-compliant electronic identification with a substantial level of assurance. Launched in 2022, the solution implements a Self-Sovereign Identity model where users' personal data is stored encrypted only on their mobile devices, with a private blockchain recording identity verification proofs. The system uses W3C DID standards and proprietary cryptographic protocols patented through the European Patent Office.

The platform enables 100% online user onboarding through video identification and allows service providers to share customer verification processes. Key technical features include:

• Non-exportable private keys bound to device biometrics
• Blockchain-based attestation of identity verification
• Zero-knowledge proofs for selective disclosure
• Integration with qualified electronic signatures
• Support for both iOS and Android through native apps

Notable adoption includes implementation by the Municipality of Sibiu for citizen services, and partnerships with major Romanian banks including CEC Bank, BRD Groupe Société Générale, Raiffeisen Bank, and others for digital certificate distribution. The solution aims to comply with the upcoming European Digital Identity Wallet requirements and has been developed through collaboration between certSIGN and the University of Bucharest's Faculty of Mathematics under the IDBC project (Identity Attestation Service in Decentralized Environments).
