BROP ID

BROP ID is a distributed digital identity system developed by the Hangzhou Blockchain Research Institute under China's Central Bank. The platform implements W3C DID and W3C VC specifications to provide standardized identity authentication and data sharing services across internet applications.

The system is built on the Blockchain Registry Open Platform (BROP), which serves as the underlying distributed ledger infrastructure. Key technical features include:

• Self-sovereign identity management allowing users to control their identity data
• Privacy-preserving disclosure mechanisms
• Cross-chain interoperability through standardized interfaces
• Verifiable credentials based on W3C VC standards

Launched in 2018 as the first blockchain platform under China's Central Bank, BROP ID aims to move beyond centralized authentication methods toward a distributed identity model. The platform is operated by the Zhongchao Credit Card Industry Development Company, a subsidiary of the China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation, and has received significant government backing. Notable implementations include digital certificate issuance, identity verification services, and trusted data sharing across financial, healthcare, and government sectors.
