The did:iamx method is a blockchain-based DID implementation that leverages the Cardano blockchain for storing and managing decentralized identifiers. This method focuses on providing secure identity management while maintaining strong privacy protections by never storing personal information on-chain.

The method uses the Cardano blockchain's transaction metadata capability to store DID documents, with security inherited from the Ouroboros consensus protocol. Each DID is uniquely generated using a combination of the network identifier (cardano) and a UUID conforming to RFC 4122.

Key features include:

  • Purpose-built DIDs for distinct use cases to maintain privacy
  • Delegation capabilities allowing DIDs to be controlled by multiple parties
  • Off-chain key generation with on-chain document storage
  • Zero personal data storage on blockchain
  • Traceability prevention through new DID generation per presentation

Example DID: did:iamx:cardano:d36d6f76-e463-4e48-a97e-908edaee6453

Technical Implementation:

  1. DID Generation and Structure:
  • Format follows did:iamx:ledger:specific-idstring
  • Uses BIP32-Ed25519 for key generation
  • Supports both publicKeyHex and AdaAddress formats
  • DID Documents include standard W3C context and optional service endpoints
  1. Resolution Process:
  • DIDs are resolved through the Cardano blockchain
  • Uses a backend verification service (didVerify)
  • Multiple node verification supported for trust
  • Tracks document state through blockchain transactions
  1. Key Management:
  • Private keys stored off-chain on user-controlled devices
  • Supports multiple verification methods
  • Implements authentication and authorization controls
  • Uses BIP32-Ed25519 cryptographic suite
  1. Security Features:
  • Inherits Cardano blockchain security model
  • Immutable transaction history
  • Controlled access through private key ownership
  • Deactivation capability with permanent effect
  1. Technology Stack:
  • Built on Cardano blockchain
  • Uses Ouroboros consensus protocol
  • Implements W3C DID specifications
  • Supports RFC 3986 URI formatting
