NEDID is a decentralized identity platform developed as part of the NEDAO project in the Canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. The system implements Self-Sovereign Identity through smart contracts based on the ERC-1056
interface and Verifiable Claims principles. The technical infrastructure includes support for off-chain attributes stored on IPFS, allowing users to manage identity information like usernames, profile photos, and social media links, while utilizing DID-JWT
for authentication.
The platform is being developed with support from the Canton of Neuchâtel and operates on the Ethereum
network, specifically using the Goerli
testnet to avoid transaction costs while demonstrating functionality. Key technical features include:
zero-knowledge proofs
for privacy-preserving verificationWhile initially launched in 2023, NEDID continues to evolve as part of the broader NEDAO initiative, which aims to provide citizens, SMEs, and institutions with practical experience in decentralized technologies. The project demonstrates a practical implementation of decentralized identity infrastructure at a regional government level, though it remains in active development with ongoing beta testing and feature additions.
